 The global study suggests that severely malnourished children are 12% less likely than other children to be able to write a simple sentence at the age of eight and are 13% less likely to be in the appropriate grade for their age at school.

Authors Michael Morpurgo, Philip Pullman and Comic Relief Honorary trustee and UNICEF UK supporter, David Walliams, also raised concerns about the connection between malnourishment and poor literacy levels ahead of the G8 global nutrition summit which took place in London in June.
