Magic Hands is a five minute program incorporating sign language, spoken word and animation to make poems vibrant and exciting for children. All of the Magic Hands presenters are profoundly deaf and new to children’s television.

Kay Morgan-Gurr, children’s evangelist and disability advisor, believes that the BBC has succeeded in creating something that both hearing and non-hearing children will enjoy. While she found that some of the signs were obscured by the animations, she believes strongly in the principal behind the program: ‘It is great to have a show that communicates with both British Sign Language and spoken word. Anything that encourages us to learn BSL can only be good!’
