BBC launches iPlayer KIDS

Hot on the heels of YouTube’s app for children, the BBC has launched its iPlayer KIDS app. Children’s programming (from CBBC and CBeebies) is the most downloaded and streamed single genre on the BBC’s on demand service, with around 1bn requests last year alone.

Monthly Crunch

According to a Comres survey for Newsround more than three-quarters of 10 to 12-yearolds in the UK have social media accounts, even though they are underage

Like YouTube, the iPlayer KIDS app is free but, crucially, is also free of advertising. Parents can set a child’s age and then the app offers only ageappropriate content. No other personal data is captured or tracked. In order to make it as accessible as possible, the BBC have included subtitles, audio descriptions and signed versions of programmes.

Celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday

Events marking the Queen’s 90th birthday have been in progress since the actual day on 21st April, but celebrations are continuing right into June, culminating in an enormous street party on the Mall on 12th June. HOPE, the London Institute of Contemporary Christianity and the Bible Society have partnered together to create The Servant Queen, a book about the Queen’s faith as revealed in her Christmas messages across her reign. There is a children’s version available, also called The Servant Queen, published by Scripture Union. Packs of ten copies come with an assembly outline and lesson plan, enabling churches, children’s workers and schools’ workers to explore a life committed to Christ. For information, visit Scripture Union.
