Why are so many youth workers becoming church leaders?

It was spectacularly misjudged, and pretty arrogant to boot. I stood in front of a room full of people and delivered an angry, graceless rant about the drain on youth work from those who feel called to ordination. I failed to acknowledge the complexity of the situation. I strutted about the place like the self-proclaimed defender of youth ministry. I saw their dismayed looks as a sign that I was getting through, and took the criticism afterwards as a badge of honour. In fact, I’d just hurt them. This was a room full of ordinands, many of whom were former youth workers.
