NOTES FOR ADAPTING

FOR YOUNGER GROUPS

For a younger group it may not be appropriate to suggest using social media to pass the message on, so maybe suggest writing a postcard to tell someone three or four good things about them.

FOR OLDER GROUPS OR THOSE WHO WANT TO GO DEEPER

Look at the story of Katie Piper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOSUzN0GhoY )

Katie saw image as massively important before her acid attack and had to readjust her life. This will provoke debate and help the young people also to see how temporary appearance can be.

Meeting guide 2

NOTES FOR ADAPTING

FOR YOUNGER GROUPS

Let the initial discussion define as to what social networks you talk about as many have age limits.

FOR OLDER GROUPS

Ask the group to look at other verses in the Bible about friendship and think about whether they engage in a friendship with Jesus.

FOR UNCHURCHED YOUNG PEOPLE

Use this as an opportunity to share about how to ask Jesus to be a friend and explore what friendship is.

FOR THOSE WANTING TO GO DEEPER

Explore their use of social media more and their attitudes to what is good to share and not. Do they think carefully about what they put online and how does feedback from it affect them?

NOTES FOR ADAPTING

FOR UNCHURCHED YOUNG PEOPLE

Explore the offer of being part of something eternal with them more. Focus in on how it feels to be part of something bigger than the immediate.

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GO DEEPER Encourage them to think about how the celebrity culture is sometimes apparent in Christian circles and whether this is a good thing or not? Ask them to think about how leaders can protect themselves from celebrity culture and stay grounded in God and his eternal plan.
